Unseen Beauty

There are times when we just can't see the beauty and the strength residing in all of us. This was written for a young friend of mine who had just lost his sister in a car accident, whose mother was in the hospital in a coma and who was going through a break up with his girlfriend. It was a very difficult time in his life and he was failing to see just how much he could endure.
stripped naked
bare but for the snow
gray skies above
icy ground below
vulnerable for the moment
no defense against fierce winds
standing tall as always
yet strong enough to bend
many seasons I've seen
unknown storms I've weathered
roots planted firmly
but still reaching towards the sky
branching out into the unknown
blossoming yearly
showing the strength and beauty within
